Tom Kranz is a Philadelphia native whose 30 year career included radio, television and online journalism. A graduate of Temple University, he worked for eleven years in various roles at WCAU-TV and fifteen years as a producer and senior producer at CBS. His on-scene assignment in West Philadelphia in May 1985, detailed in his book Liveshot, remains one of the most important stories of his career second only to the 9-11 attacks.

His experiences working in newsrooms for various bosses shaped some of the narrative of his novels Budland and Killer Competition. All the characters depicted in his novels are composites and are not based on any single individual.

Today, Tom is director of communications for a senior living company in New Jersey and serves as an elected official in his town.
